Fossils, the umbrella title for this blog, wasn't intended to refer to me but on reflection it certainly could. This ruddy piece from 1976 was my first paying graphic design project.
It's a fundraising brochure for my high school alma mater, created with Letraset and Rubylith several years after I graduated. Although I'd been drawing like an adult since I was five (thank you, Captain Bob), graphic design was new to me and, as a freshly minted illustration major with a BFA from Mass Art, it seemed decidedly un-artsy to me.
Nevertheless, it was a start. And it began to dawn on me that as groovy as it was seeing my illustrations in Road & Track and other publications, at fifty bucks a pop it wasn't going to pay the rent.
